Rapid Prototyping for Spoken Dialogue Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
We implemented a spoken dialogue system architecture for rapid prototyping. The features that support rapid prototyping include a clear separation of generic dialogue processing algorithms from domain and language speci c knowledge sources. In an experiment, it could be shown that six individuals could specify these domain and language speci c knowledge sources within 8 to 12 hours to come up with a prototypical implementation of a spoken dialogue system. To that end, no dialogue strategy had to be speci ed. Rather, it was suÆcient to provide an ontology, a description of the services o ered by the system, parsing grammars, database conversion rules and generation templates. Furthermore, the experiment shows that it is possible to formulate dialogue strategies in a domain and language independent manner; thus not requiring a system designer to be knowledgeable about dialogue processing.

WFSTDM Builder – Network-based Spoken Dialogue System Builder for Easy Prototyping
This paper introduces a network-based spoken dialog system development tool kit: WFSTDM Builder developed by NICT. WFSTDM Builder provides functions to share and edit SLU and scenario so that developers can create a wfst-based spoken dialogue system instantly with this tool. One can test the scenario by accessing to the servers connected such as ASR, TTS and WFSTDM server via not only the tool’...
متن کاملAn integrated system for teaching spoken dialogue systems technology
Spoken language systems are highly complex and teaching of students in this subject matter and in the underlying technologies could benefit greatly from instructional software. The aim of this work has been to give students hands-on experience via a fully functioning spoken dialogue system as a teaching aid. This dialogue system was built using our toolkit for spoken language technology as a de...
متن کاملA laboratory course for designing and testing spoken dialogue systems
Spoken Dialogue Systems Laboratory at OGI gives students hands-on experience developing spoken dialogue systems (SDSs) in a rapid prototyping setting. The CSLU rapid prototyper (CSLUrp) allows students to quickly build and operate SDSs for dialogues of arbitrary complexity. CSLUrp consists of a graphical user interface that allows users to create SDSs with speech recognition, speech generation ...
متن کاملRapid Prototyping of Robust Language Understanding Modules for Spoken Dialogue Systems
Language understanding (LU) modules for spoken dialogue systems in the early phases of their development need to be (i) easy to construct and (ii) robust against various expressions. Conventional methods of LU are not suitable for new domains, because they take a great deal of effort to make rules or transcribe and annotate a sufficient corpus for training. In our method, the weightings of the ...
متن کاملMaking Speech Look Like Text in the Regulus Development Environment
We present an overview of the development environment for Regulus, an Open Source platform for construction of grammar-based speech-enabled systems, focussing on recent work whose goal has been to introduce uniformity between text and speech views of Regulus-based applications. We argue the advantages of being able to switch quickly between text and speech modalities in interactive and offline ...
